Before starting the foundation August 2023, I was an ordinary mother of six adult children, three godchildren, eight biological grandchildren and six god grandchildren. My life consists of doing something I love: cooking in the Culinary Arts Department at Anderson School District Five, located in Anderson, SC.

I love cooking for my students and building a relationship with them. I love being a listening ear for them and enjoying their company. On January 3rd, 2023, I received a call that changed my life forever. My daughter, 26 years of age was threatening to commit suicide. As I rushed over to her house, she had taken her own life. My daughter taking her own life, left me angry, hurt, broken, and in total shock. I felt so guilty for not being there; I even started bargaining with God to take me and let her live. I became very depressed and started fearing that I would lose another child from their grief or of losing their baby sister. For months, I contemplated taking my own life. One day I gained enough strength to cry out to God for healing and acceptance of losing my daughter. I couldn't bring her back. I asked God for guidance and strength to be able to bare the heaviness and this unbearable pain. As time passed some days I would feel peace with a clear mind and other days, I would feel heaviness all over as if the incident had just happened. I got tired of waking up daily, knowing that my daughter was no longer here, physically. Everyday I was being reminded that all I have is memories. One day I was reminded of a scripture: 2 Corinthians 1:4, which reads, “He helps us in our time of trouble, so that we are able to help others who have all kinds of trouble, using the same help that we ourselves have received from God”. This scripture hit me like a ton of bricks! It was then when I realized that my daughter death was not about punishing me. Isaiah 57: 1-2 says, "Good people pass away; the good often dies before their time. But no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come. For those who follow godly paths will rest in peace when they die". I began to truly understand that she had not died in vain. There was purpose in all of my pain. I stopped praying about death and started praying for God to use me as a vessel. I asked God to use me to help others who have lost their love ones. I asked permission for God to use my pain to help others who are enduring the anger, hurt, brokenness, confusion and depression from their loss.
